Data Reveals Complex Picture Of Hispanic Americans

Just over half of Americans of Spanish-speaking origin have no preference between the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino," according to new data from the Pew Hispanic Center.

Of those with a preference, 33 percent preferred "Hispanic," versus the 14 percent who said "Latino" better describes them.

The pianist and keyboards player Craig Taborn once estimated that he was a member of "15 to 20" working bands. That says something about how much fellow musicians value his playing; it also says something about his versatility. He's as likely to be playing free improvisation as straight-ahead jazz, as adept at electric piano funk as electro-acoustic sound collage.
