Dish and DirecTV Viewers - Great News! Nielsen is moving KENW-TV back to the Albuquerque DMA

IF YOU USE DISH OR DIRECTV, LET YOUR WISHES BE KNOWN!

Hey, KENW fans, Nielsen is moving us back to the Albuquerque/Santa Fe DMA! Nielson has finally listened to us, after our complaint to the FCC, and put KENW-TV back where it belongs - in New Mexico, not Texas. ?You can read Nielsen's announcementhere.  With your help, we have now won half the battle.

But only half so far! ?We need your help again to get the word to DISH and DirecTV that KENW is back in the Albuquerque DMA and should be added back to their local-to-local station lineup. ?Now is the time for a flood of emails and phone calls to your satellite carrier. Tell 'em that it is time to?BRING KENW BACK TO NEW MEXICO SATELLITE TV!

If you are a Dish or DirecTV customer, please contact your carrier and let them know how you feel.

Other ways to help, if you have not yet done so.

Thank you for your support and interest in our station in the past.? We are still doing everything we can to get back on the satellite services.? This is probably the last chance for us to get KENW-TV back on DirectTV and Dish Network in New Mexico, and we need help from as many of our former Dish and DirecTV viewers as possible.

On Dec. 16, 2014, KENW-TV filed a Petition for Emergency Relief with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). ?If you would like to read the entire appeal, click here. ??The FCC is now accepting public comments about our appeal.? It is relatively easy to file a comment with the FCC on behalf of KENW-TV, and here is how to do it.

1.? If you want to make relatively short comments, click here.??When the page comes up, type in the Docket Number 15-17 and then fill out the short form.?? Near the bottom of the page is a box where you can type your comments about DirecTV and Dish Network dropping KENW-TV.? When you finish your comments, hit "Submit" and that will file your comments with the FCC.

2.?? If you want to attach more lengthy letters of support to our congressional delegation, Nielsen, DirecTV and/or Dish Network and would like to attach those letters to your comments, you can do that at this website: http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/upload/display.?When that page opens, type in the KENW-TV Proceeding Number 15-17 and then fill out the form as requested. At the bottom of the form, you can upload documents (such as your letter of support for KENW-TV) and they will become part of your comments to the FCC on our behalf.? We understand that there is an attachment limit of about 5 meg.

Time is of the essence. If you know of other DirecTV and Dish Network viewers who miss our KENW-TV programming, please let them know about filing comments as soon as possible with the FCC.

We sincerely believe our cause is just.?We are a New Mexico TV station, partially funded by the taxpayers in New Mexico, and we have been serving people living on the eastern side of the State of New Mexico for more than 40 years, long before DirecTV and Dish even existed.?Now those viewers can no longer receive our KENW-TV programming if they are on Dish or DirecTV.?Dish and DirecTV blame Nielsen and "federal regulations," while Nielsen blames the FCC.?We hope the FCC will understand that we are a New Mexico non-commercial public television station and we should rightly be carried on the local-into-local TV service provided by the satellite companies in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe DMA.

History of the Situation

As of January 1st, 2015, both Dish and DirecTV have dropped KENW-TV from the local channels of their service that covers most counties in the State of New Mexico.

We have done everything possible to keep on the air with Dish and DirecTV.  They are the ones that have dropped us with the excuse that the Nielsen Company has moved our station from the Albuquerque/Santa Fe Designated Market Area (DMA) to the Amarillo DMA.  They claim they no longer can carry our station on the Albuquerque/Santa DMA local service and blame Nielsen, the FCC, and federal regulations.  We have had all five members of the New Mexico Delegation in Washington write to Nielsen asking that KENW be returned to the DMA for New Mexico and not be in the Amarillo, Texas, DMA.  Staff members for the congressional offices in Washington have also appealed to Dish and DirecTV and the FCC on our behalf.  We have had over 5500 people sign the petition on our home web page (which you can still do if you have not yet done so), all to no avail.

We are saddened by Dish and DirecTV’s actions, but we have no power to force them to carry us.  However, we will continue to do everything we can to get back on those services.  Viewer complaints to the satellite providers probably mean more to those companies than our complaints.  Thank you for letting them know how you feel, and thanks for you past viewing and support.
