Mountain Stage
Katie Costello.

Singer-songwriter Katie Costello makes her first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live in Charleston, W.V. Bright, funny and articulate, Costello made her first recordings when she was just 14, and completed her first full-length album at 17. She moved to New York from her native Los Angeles, making the case to her parents through a PowerPoint presentation.

Here, Costello plays four songs from her recent release Lamplight. These include "Cassette Tape," which adds humor to the difficulty she experienced making meaningful connections in her new home — a theme that continues through her last song, which asks, "How do we know when being away from home makes us stronger?" Costello is backed by members of the Mountain Stage band for the duration of her set; she thanks them, tongue planted firmly in cheek, for being "great musicians but terrible people — you can't have both."
